Innovations in the CBD industry leading to the development of diverse products with varying potency and intake methods help customers make personalized CBD choices. Three popular spectrum options of differing composition are available in CBD. Before we get into the discussion of spectrum options let’s have a short discussion about CBD.
What is CBD?
CBD is a cannabinoid obtained from the plants of the cannabis family, which contain several cannabinoids. Even though it is known that plants of the cannabis family like marijuana and hemp contain CBD, CBD from simply any source is not legal in the US. The law only defines CBD products extracted from the hemp plant as legal because they contain only a minimal level of THC, which is another cannabinoid but has an intoxicating nature. Unless the THC content in a CBD product is less than 0.3%, it will not be regarded as legal as per US law.
Spectrum Options in CBD
There are three spectrum options available in CBD and they are discussed below.
Full Spectrum CBD
Full-spectrum CBD contains all the essential phytochemicals present in the hemp plant including terpenes, cannabinoids, and essential oils, and all of these compounds make full-spectrum CBD more effective than other spectrum types.
Various phytochemicals present in CBD work together amplifying the health benefits and the phenomenon is called the entourage effect. The fact that full-spectrum CBD contains a minimal 0.3% THC in it cannot be neglected and this might lead to false-positive drug test results suggesting that it is not ideal for people who have to take regular drug tests.
Broad Spectrum CBD
In simple terms, broad-spectrum CBD is full-spectrum CBD without THC. All the phytochemicals extracted from the hemp plant except THC are retained in broad-spectrum CBD making it an excellent option for people who take drug tests. Since all the plant compounds except THC are present in it, the entourage effect is still produced.
If the purest form of CBD is what you are looking for, choosing the CBD isolate is the right thing to do because it contains no compound except CBD, guaranteeing 99% purity. Since all the phytochemicals except CBD are removed from the isolate, the entourage effect cannot be expected.
Each one of the spectrum options has its own merits and demerits and people make a spectrum choice by analyzing various factors like potency, chemical composition, ease of use, discreetness, etc.
